I worked with the Northern Journeys program to teach two afternoon classes with a third grade class at Lake Otis Elementary in Anchorage.
The first day students learned about value and pattern in art and created their own value scales in clay and paint. They used those skills to make monochromatic watercolor paintings of natural feathers.
The second day students learned about mixing colors, made their own color wheels and painted a flower. We talked about observational drawing and painting and what it is like to be a science illustrator.
